The following are public notes from the ASI-Brighton meetings.
Next meeting: November 12, 2008 - 8:45am at the Bagel Bin.
Meeting October 29, 2008
- New business cards distributed
- Discussed Board objective to assess the technology investment. Mike to write a diary of his attempts to be involved in the process.
- Matt: To get more photos for blog site.
- “We can live with zero” tax increase concept.
- Need Post on graduation rates.
- Advertising costs to be investigated.
Meeting October 1, 2008 Notes
- Questions for Board on new Superintendent search: Budget? Why not start in WNY vs. national?
- Question to Board on technology review: Who does a resident become part of this evaluation?
- ASI-Brighton focus: The Board needs to develop a mindset to REDUCE total spending…not simply limit the rate of increase. The goal should be a zero tax increase. Note: NYS Aid + Sales Tax (restored from the FAIR Plan), totaled $2.36 MILLION. The budget increase was $1.84 million. Therefore, the budget increase could have been more than completely met by NYS Aid + Sales Tax….resulting in a zero property tax increase in 2008/09.
Next meeting scheduled for October 29, 2008.
Meeting August 20, 2008 Notes
- Aug. 12 meeting attended by Mike and Hein. Noted difficulty in opportunity for attending citizens to be included on the agenda or heard as contributors to agenda. However, Hein requested that he be included in proposed committee review of math curriculum. Need to follow up with repeated request at next meeting.
- Technology review by board a goal for this year. ASI interested in investigating technology spending and will request a citizens’ review and/or inclusion on review committee at next Board meeting.
- Board currently starting search for a new superintendent and apparently have no procedural guidelines to follow. Since the selection of a superintendent is critical to the district, we need to watch this process and comment or contribute if possible.
